Design and Manufacturing Engineer


Full time, in the Columbus, OH, area with frequent domestic travel and potential for international travel


  • Design, fabrication, testing of advanced materials for shock and vibration mitigation

  • Development of molding components for injection, extrusion, and casting processes with rubbers

  • Management of production partners and supply chain

  • Documentation and reporting

  • Project and communications management with client


Market competitive


The ideal candidate will have the following credentials:

  1. At least 3 years of documented experience with:

    • Product development involving polymers and/or elastomers, including mechanics and dynamics

    • Project administration

    • Data acquisition and post-processing of signals in MATLAB/Excel

    • Experience with 3D printing, casting, injection molding, and extrusion fabrication of polymers and elastomers

    • Software including MATLAB, National Instruments, Microsoft Office, CAD programs

  2. M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline

  3. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

  4. Excellent ability to maintain a clean laboratory environment and handle chemicals and raw materials, such as rubbers, urethanes, and related polymers

  5. Ability to lift and maneuver lab equipment and materials less than 40 pounds

HyperDamping closes financing to create a quieter and more comfortable world

Columbus, OH - HyperDamping Inc., announced today its launch and the completion of a seed financing with Rhapsody Venture Partners.

HyperDamping is bringing to market patent pending technology developed by Professor Ryan Harne at Ohio State University. Vibrations and shocks cause noise and damage to consumer electronics, vehicles, aircraft, building and gym floors, industrial equipment, and to many other everyday products. Existing solutions trade-off weight and cost against how much damping can be achieved. HyperDamping eliminates that trade-off.

HyperDamping utilizes principles of structural mechanics to create lightweight, broadband and extreme damping properties in elastic materials. When placed under calibrated load, specifically designed architectures in the materials greatly magnify damping capacity of the bulk material. While the design process is complex and proprietary, the dampers are simple in form and inexpensive to manufacture by common production methods.

HyperDamping’s solutions will create a quieter and more comfortable world. The company is currently piloting projects with partners in automotive, construction, and machinery industries and expects to have first commercial sales in early 2019.
