Dr. Ryan Harne, lead investigator at the Laboratory of Sound and Vibration (LSVR) located at Ohio State University, has developed a unique structural solution to a traditionally material-based problem. By addressing not just the material, but the structure of the material, Dr.Harne has made significant progress in the field of Vibration and Acoustics.

The structural material systems for noise and vibration control target the critical points, where the damping ratio grows exponentially. This unique structural characteristic allows current material limits to be dramatically enhanced.

HyperDamping creates large tunable damping properties controlling vibration, shock, and sound, and is material-agnostic. The broadband attenuation achieved is optimized for both low and high frequencies and is a major change in how to approach solving destructive and harmful vibrations
